Day 15

Day 15 at the US Open featured the Women's Doubles and the Men's Singles championship matches. In the first match played, Serena Williams and Venus Williams won the women's doubles championship in an easy match with a double 6-2, against Cara Black and Liezel Huber. In the men's singles final, No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro defeated World No. 1 and fifteen time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in an epic final. Del Potro beat the Swiss champ 3-6, 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 to become the second Argentine since Vilas in 77 to win the US Open title.

Day 14

In the first match, Juan Martin del Potro defeated third-ranked Rafael Nadal in a triple 6-2 and became the first finalist of the men's singles tournament. Del Potro's convincing victory, which echoed Caroline Wozniacki's takedown of favored Melanie Oudin in the quarterfinals, set the twenty-year-old Argentine up for his first Grand Slam final.
In the second semifinal of the women's doubles championship Cara Black and Liezel Huber defeated Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs in three sets and they became finalist of the championship to defend which they got in 2008.
Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes won the men's doubles defeating Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles also in three sets.

Del Potro's opponent in the men's championship match was decided in a contest between world number one Roger Federer and fourth-ranked Novak Djokovic, who lost to Federer in the final of the 2007 U.S. Open. Federer dispatched his opponent in straight sets, winning 7-6, 7-5, 7-5, to round out the final two players remaining from an original draw of 128 men's professional tennis players.

In the women's final, unranked Kim Clijsters capped off an impressive return to professional tennis with a straight-sets win over ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, winning 7-5, 6-3, for her second Grand Slam title.

Day 13

Rafael Nadal deafeted Fernando Gonzalez in the quarterfinal to setup a semi final clash with Juan Martin del Potro. In the women's semifinals, Kim Clijsters defeated No. 2 Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki defeated Yanina Wickmayer to advance to the final of the US Open 2009.

Day 12

Matches on Day 12 at the US Open have been postponed due to rain. The Women's Singles semifinals and Men's Singles quarterfinal between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez will be played on Day 13 (September 12, 2009).

Day 11

Argentine Juan Martin del Potro reached his first grand slam semifinal at the US Open defeating Marin Cilic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. The other quarterfinal match between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez was suspended due to bad weather. Nadala was leading 7-6, 6-6(3-2) when the play was suspended. The match will be resumed on Day 12 after the first Women's Singles semifinal between Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams.

Day 10

World No. 1 and five time defending champion Roger Federer defeated Robin Soderling 6-0, 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(6) in the quarterfinal. In the other quarterfinal match, Novak Djokovic dropped the first set, but rallied to win the match. 19 year old Belgian Yanina Wickmayer advanced to the semifinal of the US Open 2009 defeating Kateryna Bondarenko 7-5, 6-4. In the semifinal, Yanina Wickmayer will meet Caroline Wozniacki who defeated American Melanie Oudin in the other quarterfinal. In the men's doubles semifinal, fourth seeded Lukas Dlouhy/Leander Paes defeated No. 1 doubles seed Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan to advance to the on Day 10 at the 2009 US Open.

Day 9

World No. 3 Spain Rafael Nadal dropped the first set, but rallied to win the fourth round clash with France Gael Monfils in four sets. He will face Chile Fernando Gonzalez in the quarterfinal of US Open 2009. Earlier, Gonzalez defeated France Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to advance to the quarterfinals. In the other fourth round matches on Day 9, Argentina Juan Martin del Potro won in straight sets over 2003 finalist Spain Juan Carlos Ferrero. He will face Main Cilic in the quarterfinals who defeated World No. 2 UK Andy Murray in straight sets.

In the Women's Singles matches on Day 9, Belgian wild-card Belgium Kim Clijsters defeated Chinese Na Li to set up a semi-final clash with World No. 2 USA Serena Williams. Williams beat Italian Flavia Pennetta in straight sets in her quarterfinal match.

Day 8

Swede Robin Soderling advanced into the quarter-finals with a retirement of Russian Nikolay Davydenko to face the Swiss Roger Federer, who beat out Spaniard Tommy Robredo in straight sets. This will mark the third time the duo of Federer and Soderling has met in a grand slam in 2009, including the 2009 French Open final and at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships fourth round, which were both won by Federer. Spaniard Fernando Verdasco beat American John Isner to advance into the quaterfinals, which means for the first time in US Open history no American male would advance into the quarterfinals of the tournament. Verdasco will face Serbian Novak Djokovic in the quaterfinals as Djokovic took down Czech Radek Stepanek in three straight sets.

Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko beat Argentinian Gisela Dulko in two double bagel sets in 47 minutes. Dulko beat Bondarenko's sister, Alona Bondarenko, in the second round. American Melanie Oudin won in a three set thriller again, against another seeded Russian, Nadia Petrova. Belgian Yanina Wickmayer won in a three set match against Czech Petra Kvitova to advance into the quarterfinals, meaning two Belgians have advanced to the quarters for the first time since the 2003 US Open tournament. Danish Caroline Wozniacki won in a three set match. In the last two sets, she won in two tiebreakers to beat the last Russian in the draw Svetlana Kuznetsova. This breaks a 29 slam streak the Russians had of one or more women in the quarterfinals dating back to the 2002 Wimbledon Championships, when this record started.

Fourth seeded Novak Djokovic won his second round match defeating Carsten Ball in straight sets. American Andy Roddick also won his second round match defeating Marc Gicquel 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Another American James Blake took 4 sets to advance to the third round defeating Olivier Rochus. In men's matches, Tommy Haas defeated Robert Kendrick in straight sets to advance to the third round. Somdev Devvarman of India lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets on Day 4.

Day 3

World No. 1 Roger Federer advanced to third round of the US Open 2009 defeating Simon Greul in straight sets. Rafael Nadal beat Richard Gasquet in the first round match on Day 3. Gael Monfils defeated Jeremy Chardy in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to advance in the US Open tournament on Day 3. In other matches, Lleyton Hewitt defeats Chela, Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Fabrice Santoro, Jurgen Melzer beat Marat Safin to advance in the US Open 2009 Grand Slam tournament.

In Women's matches on Day 3, seeded players Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva won their second round matches. 10th seeded Flavia Penneta defeated Indian Sania Mirza to serve the double bagel of the tournament. Penneta advanced to the third round defeating Mirza 6-0, 6-0. In a upset on Day 3. In the first upset on Day 3, Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada beat 18th seeded Amelie Mauresmo 6-4, 6-0. In other matches, Na Li, Elena Vesnina, Kim Clijsters advanced to the third round.

Day 2

Second seeded Andy Murray advanced to the second round of the US Open defeating Ernests Gulbis on Day 2. Novak Djokovic also registered his first victory of the tournament defeating Ivan Ljubicic in straight sets. In other matches on Day 2, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Fernando Verdasco, Fernando Gonzalez, Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych registered victories. In a stunning upset, Stanislas Wawrinka lost to No. 163 Nicolas Lapentti in 5 sets. Lapentti rallied from 2 sets down to beat the Swiss 4-6, 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(3), 6-3. World No. 28 Ivo Karlovic also lost in the first round to World No. 119 Ivan Navarro. 29th seed Igor Andreev lost to qualifier Jesse Witten in the first round.

Top seed Dinara Safina avoided a major upset to win her first round match against No. 167 Olivia Rogowska. Safina was down 3-0 in the final set, but rallied back to advance to the second round. Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Wozniacki have won their first round matches on Day 2 at the US Open Tennis 2009.

Day 1

Five time defending champion and US Open 2009 top seeded player Roger Federer got off to a good start at this year's tournament as he beat Devin Britton 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 on Day 1. Other seeded players Andy Roddick, Nikolay Davydenko, Robin Soderling, Tommy Robredo, Radek Stepanek, Tommy Haas, James Blake won their first round matches on Day 1. In Women's singles matches, second seeded Serena Williams beat Alexa Glatch 6-4, 6-1. Third seeded Venus Williams lost the first set against Vera Dushevina, but won the match 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-3 on Day 1. Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka, Flavia Pennetta, Agnieszka Radwanska won their first round matches on Day 1.
