Elena Viatcheslavovna Dementieva, is a Russian professional tennis player, who has won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics. Dementieva has also reached the finals of two Grand Slam events. Her career high ranking was World No. 3 which she achieved on April 6, 2009


Elena Dementieva announced her retirement in an on-court ceremony on October 29, 2010. She announced the retirement following her loss to Francesca Schiavone. Dementieva ended her career ranked World No. 9, with 16 WTA singles titles and 2 Grand Slam final appearances.


Elena Dementieva was seeded No. 5 in the French Open 2010 grand slam. Dementieva beat Petra Martic, Anabel Medina Garrigues and Aleksandra Wozniack on her way to the fourth round. In her fourth round match, Dementieva beat Chanelle Scheepers. Dementieva rallied from a set down to defeat Nadia Petrova in the quarterfinals to reach the semis. In the semifinals, she retired with a leg calf injury after losing the first set in a tie-break to Francesca Schiavone 6-7(3).

Elena Dementieva has pulled out of the Wimbledon 2010 grand slam with a calf injury.
